Description

4-[2-(2-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethoxy]-4-oxobutanoic acid is a nitroimidazole that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer. It inhibits cancer by interfering with the synthesis of DNA, leading to cell death. 4-[2-(2-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethoxy]-4-oxobutanoic acid can also inhibit bacterial growth and kill bacteria through the production of reactive oxygen species. This drug has been shown to produce genotoxic impurities in laboratory animals, which may lead to mutations and cancer.
