6,6²-Dibromo-1,1²-bi-2-naphthol is a chiral molecule that can exist in two orientations. The conformational and vibrational properties of 6,6²-Dibromo-1,1²-bi-2-naphthol have been shown to be sensitive to the orientation of the molecule. This optical activity can be detected by measuring its dichroism.
In one orientation, 6,6²-Dibromo-1,1²-bi-2-naphthol has a low absorption coefficient at wavelengths of 400 nm and above. In the other orientation, 6,6² -Dibromo -1, 1² -bi -2 -naphthol has an absorption spectrum with a maximum at about 350 nm.
