Chloromethyldimethylethoxysilane is an organic solvent that has a cross-linking function. It can be used in coatings, adhesives, and other areas where it is necessary to form a chemical bond between two polymers or between a polymer and another substrate. Chloromethyldimethylethoxysilane reacts with the hydroxyl groups of polysiloxanes to form cross-links between the molecules. This reaction can be accomplished by radiation or proton bombardment. Chloromethyldimethylethoxysilane is soluble in water, alcohols, benzene, ethers, ketones, esters, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
