Description :
D-Norgestrel acetate is a synthetic steroidal progestin that is used in oral contraceptives. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of endometriosis and cancer, as well as for contraception in women. D-Norgestrel acetate is a prodrug of nomegestrol acetate, which is the active form of this drug and binds to estrogen receptors. The structure of D-norgestrel acetate consists of two optical isomers with different physical properties. The pure (D)-isomer has been found to have potent estrogenic activity and was more potent than estradiol in binding to rat uterine receptors. The (L)-isomer appears to have no estrogenic activity and does not bind to rat uterine receptors.
