Description :
2-Isopropyl-2-adamantanol is used as a reactant in the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons. It reacts with an alkaline solution to produce hydrogen chloride, which reacts with hydrocarbons to form chlorinated hydrocarbons. It can be recycled and used as a reactant many times without losing its effectiveness. 2-Isopropyl-2-adamantanol can also be used to produce methylene chloride, which is useful for the production of plastics and synthetic rubber. This chemical has chemoselectivity for chlorine over other elements such as oxygen and nitrogen.
