1-[(Aminooxy)methyl]-4-chlorobenzene hydrochloride is a bacteriostatic agent that belongs to the class of hydrochlorides. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of benzyl chloride, which is used as a precursor to other chemicals. This compound has been shown to be effective against bacteria, such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species, and fungi, such as Candida albicans. 1-[(Aminooxy)methyl]-4-chlorobenzene hydrochloride inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting the initiation complex formation. The bacteriostatic activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with DNA replication or transcription.
