Description

2-Chlorobenzofuran is a benzofuran derivative that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. 2-Chlorobenzofuran binds to the alkylthio group of a protein and inhibits the activation of the protein, which in turn inhibits the production of tautomers that are converted into hydroxyl radicals. This inhibition leads to an inhibition of cancer cells. 2-Chlorobenzofuran also has inhibitory effects on HIV infection and picolinic acid synthesis, as well as estrogen receptor modulator activity. It is mainly used for treatment of cancer, with some success in treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis due to its inhibitory effects on prostaglandin synthesis.
