Description

4±-Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate is a basic protein that is found in human fibroblasts and has potent antagonist activity. It binds to the DNA binding site of transcriptional regulatory proteins and blocks the binding of transcription factors, inhibiting their ability to regulate gene expression. 4±-Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate also inhibits the production of IL-2 receptor on T cells, thus preventing it from initiating a lymphocyte response. This substance is used in the treatment of bowel disease and cytosolic Ca2+ regulation.
