Description

2-Methylimidazo[4,5-c]pyridine is a carboxylic acid derivative that has antimycobacterial activity. It is also an amino acid derivative with orally active properties, and can be used as an amido or carbamoyl ester. The carboxylic esters of 2-methylimidazo[4,5-c]pyridine are effective against tuberculosis in the laboratory setting. 2-Methylimidazo[4,5-c]pyridine has been shown to inhibit platelet activating factor (PAF)-induced aggregation of human platelets. This compound binds to PAF receptors on the surface of platelets, inhibiting the release of PAF and other substances that promote clot formation.
