Cycloprothrin-d5 is a potent insecticide that inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) by irreversibly binding to the active site of this enzyme. Cycloprothrin-d5 binds to the monoclonal antibodies generated against cyhalothrin, which are used in molecular modeling studies. The analogs of cycloprothrin-d5 are more potent inhibitors of AChE than their parent molecule. Wild-type viruses have been shown to be susceptible to cycloprothrin-d5, but these viruses have an intact AChE and are therefore not inhibited by it. Cycloprothrin-d5 has been shown to inhibit the function of human CD4+ cells in culture, but does not inhibit HIV replication in cell culture.
