1-(3-Chloro-2-methylphenyl)-2-thiourea is a reactive compound that spontaneously undergoes cyclization to form a dimer. This compound has been shown to undergo oxidative cyclization, which can be induced by light or oxygen. The spontaneous cyclization of 1-(3-chloro-2-methylphenyl)-2-thiourea leads to the formation of an oxazole ring with a thiourea group attached. Oxidative cyclization of this product can lead to the formation of two different products: 2,4,6-trimethylbenzaldehyde and 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzaldehyde.
