Description

2,6-Diamino-9-(b-D-arabinofuranosyl)purine is an antimicrobial agent that has been found to be active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA by binding to the enzyme adenosine deaminase. The reaction mechanism of this drug is not well understood, but it has been shown to inhibit water vapor from entering into cells, making it a potential drug target for treating hepatic steatosis. 2,6-diamino-9-(b-D-arabinofuranosyl)purine also has a high resistance rate and is not currently used as a treatment for any disease. It is possible that this drug could be used as a treatment for bacterial infections in the future due to its ability to bind to DNA and prevent transcription.
