Description

2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-5-iodouridine is a positron-emitting analog of the nucleoside, uridine. It is a model system for studying the sensitivity of cells to uptake and glycosidic bond formation in the presence of radioactive substrates. 2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-5-iodouridine has been shown to be taken up by tumor cells with high expression levels of IGF-I receptor, which may make it useful as a cancer diagnostic. This compound also inhibits herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) replication in cell culture and induces HSV1 gene expression in cultured human foreskin fibroblasts. It has not been evaluated for use in humans.
