This agent binds to DNA and prevents the formation of RNA by inhibiting the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. 2'-Deoxy-5-fluorouridine-5'-triphosphate sodium salt - 100 mM solution in water also has a perchloric acid component, which may be responsible for its haematopoietic effects.
