It can also be used to synthesize fluorophores that are glycols. 2-Bromo-3-methoxybenzoic acid is cyclised to form the acridine ring system with two methoxy groups on the 2 and 3 positions. The bromine atom on the 2 position is replaced by a hydrogen atom in the final product.
