4-Phenylcinnamaldehyde (4PCA) is an aldehyde that is used as a synthetic intermediate in the production of other chemicals. 4PCA is a reactive molecule with many functional groups, which makes it useful for a variety of chemical reactions. The most common use of 4PCA is as an organocatalyst for the catalytic hydrogenation of alkenes and alkynes to produce alcohols, phenols, and other organic compounds. 4PCA can also be used to synthesize β-unsaturated cinnamaldehydes from benzaldehyde by reacting with amines.
