Trombodipine is a platelet aggregation inhibitor and vasodilator that belongs to the class of fatty acid esters. It is used to treat high blood pressure and angina, and for the prevention of stroke in people with atrial fibrillation. Trombodipine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of coronary artery disease by preventing narrowing or blockage of the coronary artery caused by atherosclerosis. This drug also has an effect on the vascular smooth muscle cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit calcium-dependent phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity. Trombodipine is metabolized into a conjugate that contains fatty acids bound to trombodipine. This conjugate is excreted through bile into feces.
