Description

Boc-Gln-Ala-Arg-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin (BGR) is a synthetic substrate that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of prostate cancer cells. It inhibits the function of proteolytic enzymes by competing with them for substrate, thereby inhibiting the breakdown of other proteins in the cell. BGR also inhibits growth factor activity and prevents the synthesis of new proteins. This substance is a serine protease inhibitor that blocks the action of trypsin and other proteases in zymogen granules. BGR has been shown to inhibit bacterial translocation into tissues, which may be due to its ability to block bacterial growth factors.
