- (2E)-3-(2-bromophenyl)prop-2-enal
2-Bromocinnamaldehyde is a nitro compound that has genotoxic activity. It is used in the industrial preparation of pyrazole rings and β-unsaturated aldehydes. 2-Bromocinnamaldehyde has been shown to have antibacterial properties and can be used as an alternative to synthetic compounds. The antibacterial activity of 2-bromocinnamaldehyde is due to its ability to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes, preventing peptide bond formation. The asymmetric synthesis of 2-bromocinnamaldehyde was reported in 1984 and has been used for the preparation of other nitro compounds with antimicrobial properties.
