2-Amino-3-(2-cyanophenyl)propanoic acid is a fluorescent probe that is used to detect hydrophobic binding sites. The affinity and sensitivity of 2-Amino-3-(2-cyanophenyl)propanoic acid for the binding site can be changed by changing the length of the side chain. It has been used in the study of muscle protein kinase, light chain kinase, and hydration. This compound can also be used as a photophysical probe to detect changes in protein conformation and conformational changes in DNA or RNA. 2-Amino-3-(2-cyanophenyl)propanoic acid is also interchangeable with other probes such as fluorescein, which have similar properties.
