Description :Lamivudine acid is a synthetic orotate prodrug that is converted to the active form, lamivudine. It inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme and has been used as a treatment for HIV infection. Lamivudine acid is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and cyclohexane. The crystal structure of this compound has been determined using X-ray crystallography and exhibits a zwitterion structure with a hydrogen bond between the carboxylate group and the amide nitrogen atom of the molecule.
