Description

Mono-6-O-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-b-cyclodextrin is a metal chelator that binds to metals such as iron and copper. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of mucopolysaccharidosis, naglu, and glycosidase. The uptake of Mono-6-O-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-b-cyclodextrin into cells has also been observed in vitro. This compound is currently being evaluated for its effects on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and diabetes mellitus type 2. In animal models, Mono-6-O-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-b-cyclodextrin has shown efficacy in ameliorating the symptoms of these diseases.
