Naringin dihydrate is a flavonoid derivative that has been found to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic properties. It also has cytotoxic effects on tumor cells and is used in the treatment of cancer. Naringin dihydrate inhibits the activity of β-glucosidase enzymes by binding to lysine residues and blocks their access to substrates, such as glucose. This inhibition leads to increased levels of glucose in the blood, which can be dangerous for individuals with diabetes. Naringin has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis in vitro and also has an effect on growth factor production. Naringin dihydrate is not readily absorbed by the body but does appear to have uptake after oral ingestion.
