Neu5Troc[1Me,4789Ac]a(2-3)Gal[26Bn]-b-MP is a fatty acid that is localized in the microstructural component of the brain. The wild-type mice were given a diet containing Neu5Troc[1Me,4789Ac]a(2-3)Gal[26Bn]-b-MP and their brains were examined for changes in serotonin levels. Structural analysis showed that this fatty acid was not incorporated into serotonin receptors in the brain. Carbides were found to be responsible for the observed effects on serotonin levels.
