(-)-Syringaresinol-4''-O-b-D-monoglucopyranoside is a natural phenolic compound found in the seeds of pueraria lobata and carthamus tinctorius. It has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects in vivo, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in vitro. (-)-Syringaresinol-4''-O-b-D-monoglucopyranoside also inhibits the growth of various bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella enterica. (-)-Syringaresinol-4''-O-b-D-monoglucopyranoside binds to the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition, thereby preventing the formation of an antibiotic/enzyme complex required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
