8-Hydrazinoquinoline is a metallochromic ligand that has been shown to form stable complexes with transition metals. It is characterized by its low energy, which may be due to the dihedral of its pyridine ring. 8-Hydrazinoquinoline can be used as a building block for the preparation of quinoline derivatives, which have hypotensive properties and are useful in the treatment of hypertension. 8-Hydrazinoquinoline has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast, and fungi through a number of mechanisms. The molecule has been studied computationally and found to bind to bacterial RNA polymerase and DNA topoisomerase IV, inhibiting their function.
8-Hydrazinoquinoline has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This effect may be due to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis or inhibition of protein synthesis in mammalian cells at high concentrations (above 1 mM).
