Description

2-Chloro-3-isothiocyanatopropene is a chlorinated organic compound. It is synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloroacetophenone with thiophosgene in the presence of an aluminum chloride catalyst and hydrochloric acid as a diluent. The product can be used as a transfer agent for chemical reactions, such as the synthesis of polyethers. 2-Chloro-3-isothiocyanatopropene has been shown to be effective against nematodes and other pests. This compound also has been found to inhibit the growth of some bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. 2-Chloro-3-isothiocyanatopropene is not toxic to mammals because it is rapidly metabolized in the liver.
