4-Epichlortetracycline is a metal chelate that is used in chromatographic sample preparation. It is often used to prepare tissue samples for analytical methods such as chemiluminescence, liquid chromatography and chromatographic methods. 4-Epichlortetracycline is also used to measure the dry weight of an organism and to detect infectious diseases. This drug has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. In addition, 4-epichlortetracycline has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
