This compound has the ability to copolymerize with vinyl ethers, such as 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether, to produce polymers that are resistant to solvents. 2-Cyano-3-phenyl-acrylic acid methyl ester is an electron donor that can react with nucleophiles, such as piperidine and isopropyl amine. Polystyrene has been shown to have antihypertensive properties.
