Description :2-Hexadecyloctadecanoic Acid is a synthetic fatty acid that is used in the laboratory for transfection experiments. It has been shown to increase transfection efficiency and was found to be more effective than other fatty acids, such as oleic acid. 2-Hexadecyloctadecanoic Acid can be used for the preparation of liposomes and lipid formulations. The amide bond between the carboxyl group of the fatty acid and the hydroxyl group of the amine is hydrolyzed by strong alkali, which leads to its desulfurization. 2-Hexadecyloctadecanoic Acid has also been shown to be a potential ligand for some proteins.
