Description

(1Z)-2-(Diethylamino)-N'-hydroxyethanimidamide is a synthetic drug that binds to the fluoride ion and inhibits its ability to form insoluble precipitates. This drug can be used as an antidote for acute poisoning by hydrogen peroxide, inorganic fluorides, or other organic peroxides. It can also be used as a water purification agent for drinking water and food processing. Filtration of (1Z)-2-(Diethylamino)-N'-hydroxyethanimidamide through a course filter will remove impurities such as metal cations, while filtration through a fine filter will remove the supernate. The pH of this compound is alkaline and it decomposes at temperatures above 100°C. The resultant residue from decomposition is soluble in an alkali metal hydroxide solution under acidic conditions.
