5-Oxopiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is a chiral, nature compound with an ammonium salt and acetonitrile. It is an amide that has a l-glutamic acid and l-glutamine. This compound reacts selectively with the carbenoid species to produce diphosgene or nitrite. 5-Oxopiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is synthesized by reacting 2 equivalents of methylamine with 2 equivalents of ethyl chloroacetate in the presence of sodium methoxide in methanol.
