Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) is a protein hormone that belongs to the glucagon family of peptides. GLP-2 has been shown to activate ion channels and regulate the movement of ions across cell membranes, which is important for many physiological processes. GLP-2 also has an inhibitory effect on the release of insulin from beta cells in pancreatic islets. It has been shown to improve glucose tolerance in animal models of Type 2 diabetes by stimulating the production and secretion of insulin from beta cells in pancreatic islets. Additionally, GLP-2 can bind to a receptor on the surface of certain types of immune cells called T lymphocytes and stimulate them to produce cytokines that promote growth and development of other immune cells.
