• Description: KU14R is a novel molecule that can be used as a pharmacological agent to treat diabetes. It blocks the ATP-sensitive potassium channels in the hippocampus, which leads to an increase in cytosolic calcium levels and inhibits beta-cell function. KU14R also blocks the ATP-sensitive potassium channels in the bladder, which results in increased camp levels and pge2 levels. This drug has been shown to have a beneficial effect on diabetic patients. The molecular targets of KU14R are intracellular targets including transcription-polymerase chain and protein synthesis. KU14R also inhibits potassium channel activity by blocking voltage-gated potassium channels, leading to an increase in cytosolic calcium levels and inhibition of beta-cell function.
