It is an activator of the antiviral ribonucleotide reductase and has been shown to have anticancer activity. Methyl 6-((((2-cyanoethoxy)(diisopropylamino)phosphanyl)-oxy)methyl) nicotinate is a monophosphate or diphosphate prodrug that can be used for the treatment of viral infections and cancer. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of RNA and DNA, blocks protein synthesis, and causes cell death by apoptosis.
