It has been shown to inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). The structure of the molecule is similar to that found in formulae A and B. 6-Bromo-1,1,4,4,7-pentamethyl-1,4-dihydronaphthalene inhibits both DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase. It has also been shown to inhibit Alzheimer's disease by inhibiting replication.
