Description

2-Bromo-5-decylthiophene is an organic compound that is used as a chemical reagent and for the fabrication of devices. It has been shown to undergo an oxidative coupling reaction with 2-bromoethanol in the presence of a copper catalyst. The reaction proceeds linearly with respect to time at high temperatures (above 150 °C) and can be initiated by light. This reaction has been observed using optical microscopy and calorimetry, which showed that the process is thermodynamically favorable with a ΔH° = -55.1 kJ/mol and ΔS° = -16.6 J/(mol·K).
