Description :
4-Methoxy-3-nitrobiphenyl is a nitro compound that can be synthesized by reacting halobenzene with nitric acid in the presence of an oriented, benzene ring. The desired product is obtained by recrystallizing the reaction mixture from ether and then filtering. 4-Methoxy-3-nitrobiphenyl is insoluble in water and has a high yield of 80%. It has been used as a pesticide and as a precursor for organic synthesis.
