Isoviolanthin is a growth factor-β1 (GF-β1) that is found in the leaves of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinases, which are enzymes that degrade collagen and other proteins in the extracellular matrix. Isoviolanthin also has an inhibitory effect on angiopteris, a plant that is known to cause inflammation. This compound has been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties in animal models by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.
