1-Methoxy-5-methylphenazinium methyl sulfate (1MMPS) is an electron donor for the chemiluminescent reaction. It has a redox potential of +0.23 volts and reacts with human serum albumin to produce light. The light emission is proportional to the concentration of α subunit in human serum albumin, which is used as a model system for cancer tissues. 1MMPS also has been shown to react with copper chloride to form a monosodium salt, which can be used as a reagent in biochemical research.
