Oteseconazole is an antifungal drug that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a component of fungal cell walls. It has been shown to be active against candida species and other human pathogens. Oteseconazole is currently being investigated for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis in women. Oteseconazole is also being evaluated as a diagnostic agent for the detection of Candida glabrata, which appears to be emerging as an opportunistic fungal pathogen in humans.
