Telomestatin is an inhibitor of the potassium channel, which regulates the passage of potassium ions through cell membranes. This inhibition causes hyperpolarization in cells, which leads to a decreased rate of excitation and subsequent inhibition of nerve activity. Telomestatin has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of human breast cancer cells by interfering with potassium channels in the membrane.
