2,3-Bis(4-bromophenyl)-2-butenedinitrile is a fluorescent compound that has the ability to emit light at wavelengths in the near infrared range. It has been used for fabricating devices and for crystallizing other substances. 2,3-Bis(4-bromophenyl)-2-butenedinitrile can be made from phenylacetonitrile using stoichiometric amounts of bromine and nitric acid.
