4,5-Bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene is a ruthenium-containing compound that has been shown to be a powerful hydrogenation catalyst. It has been used experimentally as a precatalyst for the hydrogenation of cyclohexene and other olefins. The catalytic mechanism of this compound is not well understood, but it may involve the transfer of hydrogen atoms from the substrate to the metal center and subsequent elimination of hydrogen gas.
