3-Cyano-4-iodopyridine is an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. The substitution pattern of the 3-cyano group affects its reactivity; for example, substitution by electron withdrawing groups (such as -NO2) increases its reactivity.
