Description

3-Cyano-4-iodopyridine is an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It reacts with nucleophiles to form carbon-nitrogen bonds, as well as with electrophiles to form carbon-carbon bonds. 3-Cyano-4-iodopyridine is a weak base that can be protonated by strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. It also undergoes transfer reactions with other molecules. 3-Cyano-4-iodopyridine is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and herbicides. This compound has been shown to destabilize DNA and proteins in the gas phase and to react with electron acceptors such as oxygen or nitrous oxide. The substitution pattern of the 3-cyano group affects its reactivity; for example, substitution by electron withdrawing groups (such as -NO2) increases its reactivity.
