(1R,2S,5R)-2-Isopropyl-5-methyl-cyclohexanecarboxylic acid is a liquid that is used in the synthesis of ethyl alcohol. It is produced by the condensation of benzene and acetone and reacts with sulfuric acid to form a mixture of dimethylbenzene, methanol, and water. This compound also serves as an intermediate for the production of perfumes, catalysts for other chemical reactions, and industrial solvents. It is used in the manufacture of tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars.
