Description

5-Acetamido-2[5H]-furanone is a chemical that is used to treat zearalenone-induced reproductive toxicity. 5-Acetamido-2[5H]-furanone enhances the responsiveness of animals to estradiol, and represses TNF-α expression in the intestine. The effect of 5-acetamido-2[5H]-furanone on the development of intestinal inflammation has been studied in humans and animals. In humans, 5-acetamido-2[5H]-furanone reduces proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL1β, which are induced by zearalenone. This drug also reverses intestinal damage caused by zearalenone in animals. Combination therapy with 5-acetamido-2[5H]-furanone and other drugs may be useful for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or IBS.
