Description

2-Hydroxyeicosanoic acid is a fatty acid that is monounsaturated and has a hydroxyl group. It is used in pharmaceutical dosage as an amide and carboxylate, with the latter being the active form. 2-Hydroxyeicosanoic acid inhibits chemotactic activity of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. This compound can be found in urine samples as well as biological samples such as blood, serum, or plasma. 2-Hydroxyeicosanoic acid is also present in human milk and dairy products. The structural analysis of this compound has been completed using gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS).
