Description

Tert-Butyl trimethylsilylacetate is an ester of a ketone and an imidazole. It is synthesized by the reaction of an enolate with isopropyl alcohol in the presence of trifluoride, which reacts with the carbonyl group to form a tertiary carbon center. This type of compound can be used as a synthetic intermediate in chemical reactions. Tert-Butyl trimethylsilylacetate can also be used as a catalyst for organic reactions, such as those that require high temperatures or boron trifluoride etherate. The biosynthesis of this compound has been studied using Daphniphyllum leaves, which are found to produce tert-butyl methylsilylacetate from acetaldehyde and methylamine.
